Maruti Suzuki is finally set to introduce its first electric SUV, the e Vitara, in India. After facing multiple delays, the company has confirmed that the launch will take place tomorrow, marking a major step forward for Maruti in the country’s fast-growing EV market. The SUV is being built at the brand’s Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, where close to 7,000 units have already been exported overseas. With its arrival, the e Vitara will step directly into competition with models like the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6 and the upcoming Tata Sierra EV.
Expected Pricing for India
Official prices and variant details will be revealed during tomorrow’s event. However, market expectations suggest that the Maruti e Vitara EV could be priced between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom). This pricing strategy would place it right in the same range as most of its electric SUV rivals. The Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV and Mahindra BE 6 are all positioned within similar price brackets, which means Maruti will need to offer strong value to stand out in this segment.
Battery Options and Performance
The e Vitara will be available with 49kWh and 61kWh battery packs. Both versions will feature a front-mounted electric motor, while the larger 61kWh pack will also support an AWD configuration with a dual-motor setup. However, this AWD variant is likely to arrive a little later, giving Maruti time to introduce the core lineup first.
The 49kWh version produces 144bhp and comes with a WLTP-certified 344km range, making it suitable for everyday use. The 61kWh 2WD model generates 174bhp and offers a longer 428km WLTP range, which will likely appeal to customers prioritising long-distance capability. A more powerful 61kWh AWD variant delivers 184bhp and returns a 394km range, balancing performance and range for buyers who need better traction and capability.
Feature Highlights
Inside the cabin, the e Vitara aims to deliver a modern and comfortable experience. It comes equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, giving the dashboard a clean, premium look. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support ensure easy connectivity, while features like ventilated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and reclining split rear seats enhance comfort for passengers.
Convenience features include a wireless phone charger, single-zone automatic climate control, and an electronic parking brake with auto hold. Maruti has also added practical touches such as rectangular AC vents with brushed silver accents and a two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel. Safety is another strong focus, with 7 airbags and Level-2 ADAS providing advanced driver assistance on highways and city roads.
On the exterior, the SUV features tri-slash LED DRLs, muscular wheel arches and a neatly positioned charging port on the front left fender. The C-pillar mounted rear door handle, a signature design cue, gives the SUV a unique and sporty profile.
